Dr. Kerlin Cup

In May 1936 a North Derry Gaelic Board was formed In Claudy Hall. One of the decisions made was to play a Knock-Out Competition for the Claudy Parochial Cup. At the beginning of June 1936 the Derry County Council results were announced and in the Claudy Division Dr. J.P. Kerlin (Nationalist) was elected 892 votes to 625 votes over C.R Mc Causland J.P. (Unionist). There was a 91% poll and only 3 spoiled votes.

In appreciation of the efforts of the people of the Claudy area, Dr. Kerlin presented a Cup to be played for each year on a Knock-Out basis with the proviso that the final would be played at the Parochial Sports in Claudy. And so there came into being what has undoubtedly the "Premier" competition in North Derry ever since.
